Should You Get a Same Day Edit Wedding Video?

A common remark we hear from newlyweds about their wedding day is “It went by so fast!”

This is one of the many reasons why we recommend a same-day edit (SDE) for your big day. It really is the cherry on top of the cake if it’s within your wedding budget; but do you need one? Here’s a couple of things to consider when asking yourself if you and your partner need a SDE for your wedding.

1. The Perfect Ending to a Long Day

You’ve probably heard that the day of the wedding goes by in a blur; so much happens in one day. You get ready, participate in wedding traditions, recite your vows, laugh a lot, cry a little, hit the dance floor and the day is over before you know it.. There’s no better way to end the day than to take a few minutes with all your guests to relive the big moments and really soak it all in; a SDE is great for that. It is like the encore to any great performance.

2. Catching What You Missed

The thing about weddings is that only those involved know just how much is constantly going on behind the scenes at any moment. As the bride or groom, you won’t be catching everything that’s going on since you’ll be pretty busy yourself. The SDE gives you the chance to see your parents reaction during the vows, or your partner’s perspective during their prep.

3. Same Day Edit = Same Day Sharing

While you’re waiting for your other videos and photos to be edited and processed, you’ll have a beautiful story on video of the day that you can share instantly. There may be friends and family who missed some or all of your day. Sharing a SDE gives them a chance to experience all the key moments in the lively celebration of you and your significant other.

4. Consider the Rundown

When asking yourself if you should have a SDE, one of the first questions should be “what does my day look like?” We have found that SDE’s are the most worth it the more there is to your wedding day. Aside from the ceremony and reception, some wedding days include first looks, door games, prayers, tea ceremonies, special dances/performances, etc. The more packed your day gets, the more footage there is to cover which really can make a SDE fantastic to view for you and your guests. However, fewer events throughout the day may not add as much value to the viewing experience since there may not be much that you or your guests would be missing out on. This is not to say that a shorter or less eventful wedding day cannot benefit from a SDE, but it definitely is something to think about.

5. Consider the Budget

About 65% of our couples end up getting a SDE, and we know that often times it comes down to the budget. A SDE averages around $800-1000 on top of your wedding package. If you have some wiggle room in your wedding budget, you definitely won’t regret adding the SDE to your wedding day.

6. Considering Your Venue

Another crucial point to consider is your venue. At the end of the night, the SDE may be the icing on the cake (yes that’s our second cake metaphor. We like cake.) but admittedly, if your venue does not have the proper equipment (visual and sound) to play a video, the viewing experience can fall flat. Have you ever tried to show your friends a hilarious video on YouTube only for it to buffer forever, or for the sound to not work? That’s the feeling you want to avoid. So make sure that your venue has the appropriate equipment to play the SDE!

Conclusion

Ultimately, it is your call! If it can be fitted into your budget and your venue is equipped to showcase the video, we believe a SDE is worth every penny and that you and your guests will love it.
